Tables are not that Waitable!

In my day to day I realize that people have there own minds and in the restraunt business people don't realize that waiting on tables is not the easiest job and people don't understand that waiters and waitress don't make over 3 dollars an hour. In my whole 3 years of being in the restaurant business I found out that not only are people ignorant of tipping but also people are not patient.

I asked my mom what she tips and even she said she would only tip at the most 5 dollars even if her bill was 62 dollars. I had to tell her that I get very angry when people don't tip 15 to 20 percent of their bill. In this I was helping her find out that we make what ever out tips our and if our tips are not what we worked its like working for free. I can go on and on about tipping but some people at the end of the day just dont argee on tipping, they don't feel like they should do it or do it right.

People also don't understand that anything can go wrong, even though we don't want things to go wrong an we want everything to be perfect, everything is not going to be. Some people come into these restraunts and expect everything to be perfect and when it isn't they get angry and expect these things for free. Some people blame the waiter or waitress for the problem.

  1. In the past I was one of those people to tip like $4 to $5 no matter what. Then I became friend with a guy that worked at Joe's Crab Shack. Before this I never really had a friend in the restaurant business. We would hang out with other people, and he would always talk about tipping when we would go eat at places. He gave me insight on how to tip right, at 15%. Before this, I never really cared. The waiters/waitresses were just random people to me. Now, I usually tip around 15% of my bill depending on service. The lowest I have ever tipped was a penny. I was at a restaurant with my family, and the waitress was just horrible. My mom ordered a salad and bread sticks. The waitress told us she was too busy to put the order in for the bread sticks. The general service that night was also very slow. So, I left her $00.01 for a tip. Ethical? Maybe not. I would hate to have a tip of one cent. However, that is how much her service was worth to me that night. Of course this is an extreme example of poor service. Usually poor service results in a 10% tip from me, rather than 15%.

  2. Honestly a lot of people don’t know how to tip. I mean how many people do you see win smarter than a fifth grader? The basics of math have been put aside to pick up kids from school and weekend social life. Next time your out with a friend think of a figure and ask them to take 15% from that and look at the out come. Some people can’t even read that’s why you see number 7 at Wendy’s vs. double cheeseburger with pickle. Sorry to say this but maybe the tip should be put on the bill; I seen it once and I believe I was out of town. I also think compassion should also be revamped in to the lives of American’s so many are thinking of them selves the lives of others are barely considered.

  3. I will admit, I use the tip calculator on my phone to figure out the 15%.
In Germany the tips are included in the price of food a restaurants. Do you think we should adopt the system here in America? I never have worked at a restaurant so I would not know which I would prefer.
